STARLING IS AN ONLINE LITERARY JOURNAL SHOWCASING THE BEST NEW POETRY AND PROSE FROM YOUNG NEW ZEALAND WRITERS.

Starlings are known to embed other sounds into their calls. Their flocks, called murmurations, move in unison, each bird connected to every other. Starling will operate with community purpose – providing a platform for emerging talent and creating connections with wider-known writers.

Each issue will lead off with new work from an established New Zealand writer – a lighting of the way – and close with an interview with a person of note from the literary industry.

The young writers featured here will shape and drive what New Zealand writing is to become. Starling is a chance to get a glimpse of where they might take us.
