Briana Jamieson is an artist, writer and publisher, living and working in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington. She moves between oil painting and poetry; the two forms influencing each other and flowing together, to create series of works that capture the essence of a feeling in time. You can find out more about her work through her website, brianajamieson.com. Alongside her painting practice Briana runs the publishing project Mineral.
Night Sun (St John’s Wort), is an oil on board piece, framed in dyed Tasmanian oak, and was part of the exhibition The Harvest with Gianna Christella Hayes at Kaukau (June 2022). Briana writes: ‘St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) is the plant of light and duality. Infused with the sun’s warmth, it guides us through darkness and shadows. Traditionally used as a nervous system tonic to relieve anxiety, low moods, and improve sleep quality. Warming, soothing and uplifting. Native to Europe, North Africa, West Asia. Naturalised in Aotearoa.’
